America’s aging election technology: 43 states using outdated voting machines

When people head to vote in 2016, 43 states will be utilizing soon-to-expire voting machines which were commissioned in 1990. The Brennen Center for Justice also discovered, after their detailed inquiry over the last 10 months, that nearly every state uses machines that are no longer being manufactured, making it extremely difficult to find replacement parts in the event of malfunctions and breakdowns.

We often hear rumors of election fraud and dubious political practices, with the two majority parties in our country being the major deterrents to honest elections. It seems, however, that the main problem lies not with election fraud, but with upkeep and fund allocation. With decades-old machines still being used, replacement technology might just be the biggest determining factor as to why our election system remains prodigally plagued with issues.
