Cyber segregation no longer a thing of the past: Software developed to block users based on race

Software which can block content from users based on their ethnic background has finally been developed. Like something out of an authoritarian’s fantasy world, the program will literally allow a content promoter to block and limit the exposure of a video, message or picture, based on the lack of “correct heritage”.

The program will essentially pull historical data from genetic data collection companies, such as 23andMe, and will use these to determine the ethnic make up of the user. Thereafter, it will proceed to limit or allow content based on those conclusions. Luckily, 23andMe announced through a spokesperson that they have banned this app from their database. The company further added that it is not a proponent of the site’s potential use to segregate online communities.

How long will it be, though, until a less ethically inclined entity uses this technology to bring forth an online form of class warfare?
