Former Trump White House staffer Andrew Riddaugh has warned of Big Tech using its technology and leverage over ordinary Americans.
“Big Tech was not using only their technology, but [also] their leverage over our perception and our everyday lives,” he told New American Senior Editor Veronika Kyrylenko during the 2023 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
“It became evident that the conservatives, the Christians, those that don’t fit inside the less ideological box. It became obvious that we didn’t have our own infrastructure.”
Riddaugh, the co-founder and CEO of Liberation Technology Services (LTS), said he began expressing concern about Big Tech’s growing power during his time with the Trump administration in 2020. This concern grew more stronger during the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In response to Kyrylenko’s question about how Big Tech grew in power and scope, he responded that zero federal government oversight and immunity granted by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act are mainly to blame. Riddaugh also pointed that Big Tech companies made use of lobbying and campaign efforts to really ingrain themselves in Capitol Hill.
While Riddaugh believed Big Tech’s original founders did not intend for this to happen, people have seen how leftist liberal ideology had infiltrated these technology firms and changed their culture from the inside.
According to the LTS founder, Big Tech companies were able to obtain algorithms and use these to their advantage. Coupled with data collection efforts targeting the American people, they now know more about Americans in many cases. The Mountain View, California-based Google is one such company.
Riddaugh cited reports claiming that the Google Search algorithm would tamper search results for Republican-registered voters. Those voting Democrat, however, would not encounter any suppression.
“It became evident that the left is leveraging that against us and using it to really push down conservative values. We thought that was unjust and [that it] needed to be addressed,” he told Kyrylenko. (Related: Will conservatives finally awaken to the Big Tech threat?)
He also mentioned the story of the Republican National Committee having all their email campaign suppressed, thanks to meddling by email marketing companies.
“It was going to spam, and it was going to their promotional inbox. We saw MailChimp and Constant Contact do similar things to Christian and conservative organizations,” said Riddaugh, who now advises Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake.
Moreover, Riddaugh also cited the results of a poll saying between 12 and 13 percent of Democratic voters wouldn’t have voted for Joe Biden if they had heard about the Hunter Biden laptop story. He said that it would have made a difference during the 2020 presidential election, had the story about the presidential son’s misdeeds not covered up.
“Not only do I think it’s important to vote at the ballot, but it’s also important to vote with your wallet. So, we’re providing the solutions that people can actually do that,” Riddaugh ultimately remarked, adding that LTS will launch products to help rectify this anti-conservative bias and allow the American people to get off platforms that don’t align with their values.
